What a productive morning we had on Friday and what a great start to the course. I have summarised some of the thoughts shared at the beginning of the course and have divided ideas into two sections: Reasons for practising Alexander Technique and Most important things to remember when practising Alexander Technique.
Reasons for practising Alexander Technique
Keep Healthy and Upright for longer
Learn how to deal with problems/ difficult situations in a more positive way so you don’t punish you body with excess tension
Learn how emotion affects your body in terms of tension restricting movement
Learn to move in the way our bodies are designed to move, with thought and develop awareness
Reeducate muscles to adjust to optimum length ( Muscles both contract and get stretched as a result of poor habits we’ve developed over a lifetime)
Develop observational skills, and learn from others.
Most important things to remember when practising Alexander Technique
Stop, give yourself time, develop trust , be patient
Love yourself
Incorporate your learning into your daily Practice
Make time for active Rest every day to realign the spine
Be open to change: question your mindset and childhood beliefs
Tone, not tension enables improved function
Stop trying! Take the effort out of daily activities
